Race for the Cure

Saturday June 21, 2008
Saturday was a really amazing day to say the least. St. Louis hosted the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. My friend Anna Lisa walked in the race a couple of years ago and told me how neat it was, so we decided, along with Cammie, to walk it this year. All I can say is WOW! It was AMAZING! We arrived in downtown St. Louis around 8:00 am and the entire downtown was dedicated to the cause. Streets were blocked and thousands of people were gathered to run or walk for a cure. We could not believe the turn out! So many people were walking in memory of a loved one who was a victim of breast cancer, while others were walking survivors. The atmosphere was very powerful. We had so much fun being a part of something so awesome! And not to mention getting all the free samples!! I think the neatest thing about the Komen foundation is that it all started because of one person, and today there were thousands, upon thousands, of supporters. I can't say enough how much fun it was! Here's some pictures from our day. If your city ever hosts a breast cancer walk, do it! It is a truly unique experience!

The fountain in front of the capitol, pink for the day...too cool!

All of us in front of the pink fountain, decked out in our pink shirts! Little Ali came along and was such a trooper! What a good girl!

The pink energizer bunny...seriously! Everywhere was pink!

We were in the very back of the walker group and this is what we saw. The crowd went on forever and wrapped around several blocks in front of us.

This is our view at the end of the race, heading toward the finish line...what an amazing view!

The finish line is under the pink arch...how cool is that?!

I must say, the 3 of us together were pretty crazy! This is the end of the morning with all our free stuff! We couldn't hold it all!

Ali was the best! So she got ice cream! Yum Yum!

Overall, we decided this must be a yearly tradition for us women! We had so much fun, and it was such an amazing atmosphere that we came away feeling empowered! Needless to say, I was a tiny bit obsessed with getting a bunch of good pictures that these aren't even half of what I took! Let's just say I risked being hit by cars and run over by teams of racers to get the perfect shot! It was a picture perfect morning though! Thanks for the fantastic morning girls!
