Our little man turned THREE last week! Jesse and I cannot believe we have a 3 year old! He’s so grown up! Steve’s birthday was last Thursday, but we waited to celebrate it with the whole fam until Friday. His birthday kicked off quite the weekend of fun! First up though, pictures from Steve’s big day! (By the end of this post, you may think I’m crazy! If you don’t already!!)
Jesse couldn’t let Steve’s actual birthday pass by without letting Steve open a present. So, we let him open one! A Star Wars coloring book with some twistable crayons. Steve loves to color! (I was out of scotch tape and only had packing tape…poor kid! He really had to work to get these presents open!)
THE CAKE!!! I love this cake! Not only did it look awesome (toot, toot!), it tasted even better! Chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting and a vanilla center. YUM! Cammie and I always help each other with birthday cakes, so she came and helped with this one. We can’t seem to make a cake without some sort of “think outside the box” moment…this time was no different! The ninja turtle is made out of fruit roll ups, but they don’t actually sell green fruit rolls ups, so I had to get creative and paint a yellow fruit roll up with green food coloring. No biggy, except I had found this idea online somewhere (to use fruit roll ups) and (just like they said) put wax paper on both sides of the fruit roll up to cut out the pieces, but then the wax paper wouldn’t come off…so Rafael ended up not being editable like I had originally planned! We had to peel him off (wax paper and all) before we cut the cake! But I bet you’d never know if I didn’t tell! We’re that good! ;)
Steve and his cake…he LOVED it!
All the cousins (and aunts and uncles) came over to open presents and have cake and ice cream. Such a cute group!
Jesse had a huge hand in birthday presents for Steve this year! We got him this great cowboy hat and a big shotgun and pistol (it was a set) that also both shoot caps (yay). Steve was in heaven! And, yes, for those who may remember, we got him guns last year for his birthday too! Jesse repeatedly pointed out to me (the concerned mother) that all little boys want are guns and swords. So, that’s just what our little boy got!
Luckily for cousins, he also got a VERY annoying guitar, that he LOVES! This one was from Jer, Briggs, Ali and Cade…and Cammie knew I would be annoyed, but just had to be the fun aunt! ;) It really is a cute toy! We just all know how much I love toys that make noise!
Another fave…a binder of Pokemon cards from Trey and Brooklyn! The cousins are all big into Pokemon and they all have their own binders. Steve gets reject cards from them sometimes and has been saving them in an old folder. Now he’s totally up to speed! He loves to “play” Pokemon and will tell me all about each card (which is all made up because he has no clue!), but it’s really quite cute.
Steve seriously scored this year! Grandma, Grandpa, and the Blackburns gave Steve this awesome Toy Story race car track. Drex, Quin, Libby and Beau have a similar one at their house that Steve LOVES, so he was way excited!
Steve knew just what to do! He was so excited all week for his birthday and he kept asking me if everyone was going to sing happy birthday to him…we did!
And this was the look on his face after…so cute! I seriously cannot believe he’s 3!! And I will probably feel the same way every year for forever!
Happy Birthday to our sweet little man! We love you so much!
But wait, we aren’t done yet… After presents, cake and ice cream, the parents all went out for a date night and we kept all the kids…
…all night! Steve was SO excited to have a sleep over with his cousins, and they all had a blast! They were all great, just not when it came to sleeping! I was finally able to get a sleeping picture at about midnight (the girls can chat like you wouldn’t believe!). And then they were all up by 6 am! Dan out slept them all…which I totally didn’t see coming! It was fun…but when us moms finally thought about it (after the fact) we realized it was really bad timing because we were about to rush off to the ward trunk or treat and pump them all full of sugar! Good times, and we really had a great weekend! But, I’ll have to post our Halloween pics soon…this has been way too long as it is!
